Free Food Giveaways Prove a Powerful Success

In 2025, something truly special began.

Autistic Girl launched a series of free food giveaways with a simple but powerful mission: to bring people together and ensure that no one in the community went without. What started as an idea quickly grew into something far bigger — a lifeline and a place of connection.

By partnering with local supermarkets, surplus food was collected and redistributed to those who needed it most. From fresh fruit and vegetables to bread, pasta, sauces, long-life milk, and even sweet treats, every item made a difference. Generous bakery donations added warmth to each event, while tea and coffee created a welcoming space where people could sit, talk, and feel part of something.

The giveaways took place across Edinburgh at a variety of community venues, including No.6 One Stop Shop for Autism, Greyfriars Kirk, and St John the Evangelist Church Hall. Each event became more than just a place to collect food — it became a hub of support, especially within the autistic community. People came not only to receive, but to connect, share experiences, and uplift one another.

In total, over 200 people — adults and children alike — were supported through these events. Behind the scenes, however, the journey was far from easy.

Accessing food donations required joining the Neighbourly programme, a platform that connects community groups with local businesses. The application process was long and demanding, involving months of paperwork, persistence, and determination. There were moments when it felt overwhelming — but giving up was never an option. And in the end, that perseverance paid off.

Autistic Girl was approved.

That approval unlocked the opportunity to make a real difference — and it showed just how powerful determination can be.

Although the free food giveaways are currently on pause, their impact continues to ripple through the community. The connections made, the support shared, and the smiles created have left a lasting mark.

And this is not the end of the story.

Because when something is built on compassion, resilience, and community spirit, it never truly ends.

Who knows what the future holds?
