Private Members' Club Plays Host to Autistic Women

The 2nd wine and champagne meetup for autistic women took place at the historic Scottish Arts Club in the New Town.

The event saw autistic women travel from the Borders and Dundee to attend.

The club has been in existence for over 150 years and has seen titans of Britain's history visit including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, James Bond writer Ian Fleming, legendary philanthropist Sir Patrick Geddes and many more.

Admission to the club is normally forbidden unless you are a member. The membership process requires you to have two references one at least, from a club member. The would-be member must then pass a panel interview and present their cv.

In this case, Kat who created the event, is the sister of Iona, a current member. Together with Iona, the club president and the manager Barbara, the event was planned and given the go ahead.

In advance of the event, Kat received £50 in donations from autistic women to provide free wine and champagne at the event.

The event saw autistic women relax with a glass of wine and talk about art, history, politics and how to help autistic girls.

The women had access to the whole club with the Club room and the Sejourn room being used to most.

Many of the attendees were No.6 users or had learned of the event on Swan.
